Description
Peter Pan and the Indians Little Golden Book Front Cover Illustration by Brice Mack Original Art with Mechanical Art, Set of Negative Film, and #D26 Published Book Group of 5 (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1952). Walt Disney prefaced the 1953 Peter Pan animated feature with a Little Golden Book adaptation the year before. Here is the very impressive original cover art to that cover, featuring Peter and the Neverland Tribe Indian Chief in a splendid illustration by Disney background artist Brice Mack (1917 - 2008), who worked on such films as Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland and Lady and the Tramp as well as the Oscar-winning Mickey Mouse short Lend a Paw. Brice and animator Dick Kinney (1916 - 1985) did the interior illustrations, but we believe Brice painted the cover himself, using gouache on illustration board with an image area of approximately 10.75" x 13". Also included is a mock-up of the cover using a color print with a taped-on note, same as printed size; a trimmed cover marked for a later printing; a set of four-color negative film in a tape-sealed plastic sleeve; and a first printing copy of the published book. The cover illustration is in Good to Very Good condition with some handling and edge wear, plus tack holes in the corners.Auction Info
