Description

Princess Mononoke San Production Cel Setup with Production Background and Miscellaneous Anime Layout Drawing Group of 2 (Studio Ghibli/Pierrot, c. 1997). "It's a trap. No! Wait! Princess of the wolf gods! Don't go down there! Go back to the forest!" Ashitaka fruitlessly urges San not to attack Iron Town in Hayao Miyazaki's animated masterpiece Princess Mononoke. Seen at the 48:12 mark of the film, this is an incredible hand-painted original production cel of San just before she charges into battle. Princess Mononoke is the last of Hayao Miyazaki's films to be animated traditionally on cels, and its release was met with explosive success. The film greatly increased Studio Ghibli's popularity and influence outside Japan. This must-have cel from the landmark film is displayed on a Studio Pierrot production background rendered in gouache on board with cel overlay elements. In addition, the lot includes two matching background layout drawings rendered graphite and color pencil on Studio Pierrot animation paper. The 12 field setup and drawings show minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use, and the condition is Very Good.
