Description
Grave of the Fireflies Setsuko Production Cel Setup with Production Background (Studio Ghibli, 1988). Setsuko, recently orphaned by a bombing, attempts to fight back her tears in this emotional original production cel setup from the heartbreaking Studio Ghibli masterpiece Grave of the Fireflies. Directed by Isao Takahata, this lauded classic follows two siblings as they struggle to survive poverty in the final months of World War II. The film is widely regarded as not only one of the best animated films ever made, but one of the greatest war films ever made. Seen at the 17:16 mark of the film, this lovely cel is displayed on an original 12 field production background, possibly from another film. Setsuko, center frame and wearing a somber expression, measures at 5.5" x 7.5". The background is rendered in gouache on board, numbered 68 and 69 at the top edge and upper right corner. The cel bears the numbers 2-61 and B14, and the piece overall shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use. The condition is Very Good.Auction Info
