Fantasia 2000 "Firebird Suite" Spring Sprite Extreme Clean-Up Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 2000). This stunning 16 field clean-up extreme animation drawing was created for the final segment of the long-awaited sequel to Fantasia-the "Firebird Suite" based on the 1919 musical composition by Igor Stravinsky. The drawing is a gorgeous closeup of the sprite, that segment's protagonist. The lovely Sprite brings renewed life to the forest until she ventures into the cauldron of a volcano and awakens the Firebird. The ensuing eruption destroys the forest, yet it is resuscitated by the female "Sprite" who has survived the Firebird's fury. The seven sections of music are titled: "The Calling," "The Coming of Spring," "The Warning," "The Eruption," "Desolation," "Return of Hope," and "Rebirth." The sprite was animated by supervising animator Anthony DeRosa who has a near four-decade career at Disney, his work ranging from the 1985 cult classic The Black Cauldron to the new short Once Upon a Studio. The graphite with color pencil layout can be found at about 1:00:58 in the film as the sprite spreads fresh greenery and flowers across the mountainside. It has an image area of about 12.5'' x 8'' and the animator wrote the designation S19 in the bottom right to mark its place in the scene, with animator's chart above at top right. Light age-related toning, minor edge and handling wear, and three reinforced pegholes. Very Good condition for this force of nature!More information about Fantasia 2000.
