Description

Donald Duck WWII Preliminary Insignia Drawing for Marine Fighter Squadron 114 by Hank Porter (Walt Disney, c. 1943). Donald Duck seems to take on the role of Paul Revere in this fantastic preliminary insignia drawing created by Hank Porter during World War II. During the War, Walt Disney wanted to support the Allied war effort however he could. Part of the Disney studio's contribution to the war effort included creating a team of Disney artists that created original insignia designs to requesting units of the US Military, as well as some other organizations and countries. This excellent insignia design depicts Donald Duck dashing to the rescue on a horse, in front of a crescent moon. This design was created for Marine Fighter Squadron 114 (VMF-114). The drawing is created with red and blue pencil on vellum measuring roughly 9" x 10". The circular insignia design has a diameter of about 7.75". This fighter squadron's first major combat was the Battle of Peleliu, and they mostly operated in the Pacific Theatre. The drawing is in Good to Very Good condition overall, with some handling and edge wear, including a horizontal and vertical crease. The edges of the sheet are slightly uneven. One of the nicest and more dramatic Donald Duck insignia designs we've seen!
