Description

Silly Scandals Betty Boop "Dog Ears" Animation Drawing Signed by Grim Natwick plus Studio Model Sheet Print Group of 2 (Fleischer Studios, 1931/c. 1930s). "You-oo-oo-oo-oo, you're driving me crazy, what did I do to you?" Here's a very early and rare 12 field 3-peghole animation drawing of Betty Boop from her seventh film appearance, the first to refer to the character as "Betty." Betty's look and name changed with each early cartoon, gradually shifting from Bimbo's dog-like girlfriend (with long puppy dog ears) to a human wearing loop earrings. In this image, she's on stage with the dog ears, thanking the crowd after singing "You're Driving Me Crazy" with Bimbo singing along from his seat; you can find this image of Betty bowing and casting a long shadow at the 3:44 timestamp in online viewings. This graphite image of Betty (not including her red pencil shadow) has an approximate image size of 2.5" x 3.5". Artist Myron "Grim" Natwick (1890 - 1990) created the Betty Boop character and remained one of her primary animators; he hand-signed the drawing to the lower left of Betty. The drawing is matted with an acetate cover and overall mat size of 15.5" x 13". Also included is a vintage studio-used model sheet print of the classic Betty Boop design, a turnaround sheet with four full-figure images. The print is matted with acetate covering the 10.25" x 7.75" aperture; full mat size is 15.75" x 13.25". The drawing and print are both in Good to Very Good condition with minor handling wear and age-related paper toning.
