Description

Fantasia "Pastoral Symphony" Black Pegasus Animator's Maquette (Walt Disney, 1940). The "Pastoral Symphony" segment of Fantasia is filled with lush, colorful imagery from ancient Greek and Roman mythology. One of these mythological figures is the Pegasus. There are two main Pegasus characters in this segment, a mother and father pair, who grace the skies with their adorable Pegasus babies. This original animator's maquette depicts Father Pegasus with his striking black coloration. This maquette was actually used during the development of Fantasia, as a reference to help animators visualize the character from all angles. The piece has been repainted by Helen Nerbovig McIntosh (1915 - 1992), who was an original maquette painter and Ink and Paint artist at Disney during the time that this piece was made. She has signed the base of the maquette. The maquette is marked on its base with #12, as well as having a "Return to Character Dept." stamp. The piece measures about 9.5" long and 6.5" tall. It is in Very Good condition, with minor handling and edge wear. A small area on one of the wing tips has been professionally repaired.
From the Disney Character Model Maquette Glad Collection.
