Description

Great Guns! Animal Crowd Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1927). War has broken out with bells and whistles signaling the opening of the recruitment office to which this fevered crowd is headed. Offered in this lot is an original animation drawing from the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short Great Guns! This was the fourth Oswald short released by Disney debuting on October 17, 1927, and was among a selection of Disney Oswald films reissued under Walter Lantz with synchronized sound in the early 1930s. This feature saw Oswald enlist with the army, parodying the popular silent era genre of war films. This raucous crowd can be spotted early in the film near the 0:29 mark when viewed online. Depicting an impressive fourteen characters, the crowd has been rendered in graphite to an expansive image area of 11.75" x 5" on 12 field animation paper trimmed to an overall size of 12" x 8.5" with binder holes punched along the left edge. Many of the characters have been partially shaded and including simplistic color callouts for gray, black (B), and white (W). With typical handling and edge wear including the noted trimming, age-related toning, light corner creasing with pinholes, and light surface wear/staining, overall this celebratory band is in Very Good condition.
