Description

George Woodbridge Self-Caricature and Greeting Original Sketch (c. 1970s). Woodbridge borrows a sheet from MAD editor Nick Meglin's letterhead note-pad to send an inscribed mug-shot. Unusual to see Woodbridge, one of MAD's more meticulous ultra-realists, working in such a loose and relaxed sketch-style. The piece conveys the fond esteem in which the MAD crew held Meglin, who was himself a practical humorist who inspired the artists to seek higher levels of brilliance. Ballpoint ink on bond. Image area, 4" x 3". Excellent condition. From the Nick Meglin Collection.
