Description

Brave Little Tailor Giant Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1938). Gustav the Giant terrorizes a kingdom, unopposed in Walt Disney's Brave Little Tailor. When Mickey Mouse, the tailor of the film's title, was ordered to slay him by the King (Minnie Mouse's father), who mistakenly thought he killed seven giants in one blow, Mickey used his tailoring skills to defeat Gustav. Originally unnamed in both the short and its comic adaptation in the Mickey Mouse newspaper comic strip, Gustav was given that name in the comic book story Thumper Meets the Seven Dwarfs. Several of Gustav's actions were reused for Willie the Giant's movements in the "Mickey and the Beanstalk" segment of 1947's Fun and Fancy Free. Here is a rare production drawing featuring Gustav. Rendered in graphite with red pencil on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper. Gustav measures 6.5" in this piece, noted as 27 in the lower right. Mild handling wear. Overall condition is Very Good.
