Description
Walter Hoban Jerry on the Job Daily Comic Strip dated 9-10-20 Original Art (International Feature Service, 1930). Always a delight to catch Jerry on the Job, a classic of the Big-Nose/Big-Foot school of cartooning. (Also Big Heads.) Each episode is a generous definition of slapstick, complete with impossible contortions and glorious visual overkill. Hoban ranks with E.C. Segar (Popeye) and Clifford Sterrett (Polly and Her Pals) in terms of high-style exaggeration. This fine specimen finds Jerry's boss unnerved by a message from his wife. And how many light fixtures does one desk need, anyhow? Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with blue shading and an image area of 24.25" x 5.5". (The layers of blue are a code for the production crew to add Benday, or shading film.) Faint toning and marginal notes; otherwise, in Excellent condition.Auction Info
