Description

Merrill Blosser Freckles and His Friends Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-9-56 (NEA Service, Inc., 1956). A percursor of Archie, Blosser's Freckles originated as a little-kids feature in 1915 and gradually changed to a teen-age milieu. For a guy born in the 19th century, Blosser kept amazingly well attuned to evolving modern times -- this midcentury entry is a smart example of the artist's droll sense of irony. Blosser stayed in charge for the long term: Freckles was recognized in 1965 by the National Cartoonists Society as the oldest regular comic strip still piloted by its creator. Ink over graphite on blue pencil. Image area, 16" x 4.5". Moderate toning. Very Good condition.
