Description

Charles Kuhn Grandma Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-19-55 (King Features Syndicate, 1955). Kuhn's idealized grandmother-image never attached herself to any one family, but served as a de facto Grandma to all the neighborhood kids. Kuhn modeled the character in part after actress Margaret Mann's vigorous presence in such Little Rascals comedy films as 1931's Helping Grandma. Playful and generous, Grandma enjoyed such simple -- often athletic -- pastimes as kite-flying, the theme of this lively, two-foot-plus vignette. The gentle humor and its clever visual punchline are as ageless a delight as Grandma herself. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 27" x 7". Aside from some soiling, spot-staining, and toning, the art is in Very Good condition.
