Pinocchio Honest John Animation Drawing (Disney, 1940) Sly as a fox...literally! Honest John (real name J. Worthington Foulfellow) and his kitty companion, Gideon, are the first in a long line of bad influences for our titular character, Pinocchio. The fox and the cat duo are two characters taken directly from Collodi's original book, though they are unnamed until the Disney adaptation. Poor Pinocchio is sold into servitude not once, but twice, by this deceitful pair of con men! This original cleanup animation drawing couldn't express Honest John's real character any better - what a pose! With a sly expression on his (partially covered) face, and wrapping his cloak around him in a huff, we can almost see the wheels turning as he comes up with yet another of his schemes. Also, not immediately noticeable, is the apple core he holds in his left hand...he has just eaten Pinocchio's gift for the schoolteacher! Very large drawing stretches from the top to the bottom of the sheet of 12F animation paper and measures nearly 8" high. He is rendered in graphite and colored pencil. Small sequential numbering in graphite and colored pencil near bottom left of drawing. Stamped text reads "Prod 2003 Seq. 3 Scene 17". Very slight age-related yellowing of paper, minor handling and edge wear. In Fine condition.
