Description

Tom Wilson Ziggy Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-10 (Universal Press Syndicate, c. 1970s). Wilson had been the boss of Robert Crumb during the early 1960s at Cleveland-based American Greetings -- well before Crumb broke through as an Underground Comix master. Ziggy descends from the greeting-card style that Wilson and Crumb had developed, combining Crumb's spontaneous, rounded approach with Wilson's affinity for crowd-pleasing cuteness. This bright piece is a classic example of the long-running gag-panel strip. Inscribed at lower margin. Ink and Pentel felt-tip over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 4.5" x 5.5". Fading evident in principal ink lines. Age toning and overall spotted staining. Fair condition.
