Description

Wilson McCoy The Phantom Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-18-59 (King Features Syndicate, 1959). The heroic Phantom appears (disguised, Panel 2, right) in a flashback. He can be seen stamping the skull-faced Mark of the Phantom upon a renegade hoodlum. McCoy's self-taught, emphatic style is just right for this ominous sequence, which includes the treat of a wider-than-usual opening panel to convey the anxieties of the fugitive criminals. Ink and Zipatone shading film over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 20.75" x 6". Toning and handling wear, with a vertical crease at midpoint. Very Good condition.
