Description

Wilson McCoy The Phantom Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-17-59 (King Features Syndicate, 1959). A gang of jailbreaking jungle hoodlums encounters the ominous mark of the Phantom -- "the ghost who walks ... supposed to be 400 years old." Bad news for the criminals, but good news for followers of Lee Falk's pioneering superhero feature. McCoy had drawn the strip since the 1940s, and his bluntly emphatic, self-taught style is just right for this virile exercise in crime and punishment. Ink and Zipatone (unevenly yellowed) over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 20.75" x 6". Toning and handling wear, but withal in Very Good condition.
