Mickey's Pal Pluto Pluto and "Devil Dog" Animation Drawings Sequence of 4 (Walt Disney, 1933). The use of "angel and devil" good vs. evil conscience guides for cartoon characters is a well-established gimmick, but here's the first use of it regarding Mickey Mouse's faithful dog Pluto. In this Burt Gillett-directed short, released on 2/18/33, a bunch of cute kittens that have captured the attention of Mickey and Minnie Mouse prompts a "devil dog" to pop up, urging Pluto to "do away" with the meddlesome felines. Here's a rare sequence of four original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings from this cartoon, with action beginning at the 5:38 point, when Pluto is at the well the kittens have all fallen down. The first graphite drawing is numbered 1A, showing Pluto's confused face in close-up (image size 4.5" x 6.5"), while the rest show Pluto's Devil Dog, on pages numbered 2 (image 3" x 4"), 32 (4.25" x 4"), and 39 (image 3.5" x 4" with an added red pencil highlight and notations). The paper displays mild toning with handling and edge wear, including a small edge tear and tiny chip near the image on #1A. Overall condition is Very Good.
