H.J. Fisher - Various Panel Cartoons Original Art Group of 6 (1926-27). Chicago's most notorious mayor, the immeasurably corrupt W.H. "Big Bill" Thompson (1869-1944), looms large and obnoxious among this fine selection. The artist, who sometimes signs as Hal Fisher, is not to be confused with Mutt & Jeff's Bud Fisher or Joe Palooka's Ham Fisher. Though primarily a local-politics commentator, H.J. Fisher also reserved the right to dabble in humor. This set shows both areas of interest. Four dates of publication are recorded: 9-24-26, 2-4-27, 4-8-27, and 4-29-27. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 8" x 11" to 10" x 12". Moderate toning and age-staining. Very Good condition.
