Neal Adams The Brave and the Bold #79 Batman and Deadman Splash Page 2 Original Art (DC, 1968). A truly monumental splash page. This marks the first meeting of Batman and Deadman -- a pairing that alone would make it historic, but the context makes it seismic. Neal Adams, fresh off redefining Deadman in Strange Adventures, brings his ghostly motion, surreal staging, and moody realism to the Dark Knight at a pivotal moment. The campy Batman TV series had been off the air for only three months, and this issue of Brave and the Bold hit readers like a thunderclap: a serious, shadow-draped Batman with slightly longer ears, flowing cape, and real menace back where he belonged. Fan reaction was overwhelming, prompting Julius Schwartz to eventually move Adams onto Detective Comics and Batman. This splash captures the exact moment Batman's modern era ignited, two icons meeting for the first time, drawn by the artist who would redefine them both. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The Batman logo is a reproduction stat paste-up. However, the Deadman logo is an original stat paste-up, and exhibits some tearing with tape repair. The page presents with light toning, glue residue and production oil staining, whiteout corrections, smudging/soiling, minor staining, blue pencil editorial marks, marginal punched holes, top left corner crease, minor right edge tear, clipped corner, and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
