Detective Comics #29 (DC, 1939) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Off-white pages. The second cover appearance of Batman, and his third overall appearance! We have only sold two higher-graded unrestored copies in our entire history. It includes the first appearance of Doctor Death in part one of a two-part story. This action-packed cover was provided by Bob Kane and contains interior art by Kane and Superman co-creator Joe Shuster. Currently listed on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics.
This copy hails from the collection of James Baxter, an avid comic aficionado who passed away before his time. We are told that he foresaw huge increases in comic book values at the time he was acquiring key Golden and Silver Age issues in the 1990s and early 2000s. You will find more gems from his collection in this catalog (notably the Detective Comics #31 offered in the following lot) and in future Heritage auctions.
