George Wilson Turok, Son of Stone #16 Cover Painting Original Art (Dell, 1959). "Waugh!" Turok and his young companion Andar square off against a towering giant in the hidden valley on this early Turok, Son of Stone cover -- our earliest example from the series we've ever offered. Painted by George Wilson, the definitive Dell/Gold Key cover artist behind classics like Magnus, Robot Fighter and Solar, Man of the Atom, his Turok covers in particular rarely surface for sale, making this a special find with especially rich, dark color. And while Wilson's covers didn't always mirror the exact creature inside, this one delivers -- locking onto the lead tale, "Secret of the Giants," and selling the danger at a glance. Created in gouache over graphite on illustration board with a matted image area of 12.5" x 16.25", glass-front framed to 25" x 28.5". There are minor tape-pulls/abrasions and tape residue on the edges of the artwork. The two creatures in the background are on a paste-up that has slightly lifted along the top edge. There is a red mark above the creatures. Presents in Very Good condition. The frame is solid as-is.
