Originally released for the Game Boy Color in 2000, Devil Children was Atlus's attempt to introduce the Shin Megami Tensei universe to a younger audience while preserving its core demon negotiation and fusion systems. The PlayStation version combined the Red Book and Black Book editions into one enhanced release, featuring improved color visuals, voice acting, new cutscenes, and refined audio. The story followed Jin and Akira as they journeyed through the demon world to prevent a war between humans and demons, forming alliances with creatures along the way.
