[Box: 9.4; Cart: 9.8; Manual: 9.6; Overall: 9.6] This is only our second time offering The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the Atari 2600 at Heritage Auctions-and the first since 2023. Bearing a remarkably high grade for a complete-in-box 2600 game, it is the top CIB example of this title among just nine on PSA/Wata's December 2025 population report. Published by Wizard Video Games, this action title is based on Tobe Hooper's influential 1974 film and is one of the earlier horror-themed video games. Its pixelated violence proved controversial at the time, leading many retailers to refuse to carry it and further limiting its availability. Designed by Ed Salvo and programmed by VSS, the game cast players in the role of Leatherface, revving a chainsaw to chase and kill victims, which were worth 1,000 points each, with gameplay ending once the final tank of fuel was exhausted. Wizard Video Games released Halloween the same year, and for anyone brave enough to bid on both, that title is also offered in this sale.
