Dizzy Divers Popeye and Olive Oyl Animation Drawing (Fleischer Studios, 1935). Olive readies Popeye for a deep dive in this original full-figure animation drawing. In the short, Popeye and Bluto, both owners of deep sea-diving companies, have agreed to pool resources and split a sunken treasure 50/50. Of course, Bluto tries to take advantage of Popeye's honesty by racing to find the treasure first! This short, released on July 26, 1935, was the 24th produced in the long-lived series. It was so early in the run that Olive's voice had not even been finalized yet! Dave Fleischer directs and Willard Bowsky and Harold Walker provided animation. With a troubled history and an undignified closure, the Fleischer studio, much celebrated for its artistry, left behind precious little in the way of surviving production art. All artwork from original 1930s productions is considered extremely rare. This nicely detailed piece can be found in the cartoon at about the 2:58 timestamp. The art is in graphite with an approximate combined image area of 4.25" x 4". The drawing is matted and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 14.5" x 13.75". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The art is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
