Mother Goose Goes Hollywood "
See Saw Margery Daw" VIP Gift Publicity Cel Setup with Hand-Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1938/1960s). "I want so much to be alone." This fantastic cel setup is believed to be a studio gift to the very man caricatured in this image, Edward G. Robinson. Posed for a page of Mother Goose's book in "See Saw Margery Daw" Edward G. Robinson and Greta Garbo play the part of nursery rhyme characters in this hilarious image. Based on production artwork from the 1938 Silly Symphony
Mother Goose Goes to Hollywood, with the image this composition was inspired by seen near the 5:00 timestamp of the short. This cel was hand-painted and prepared by the Studio's Art Props Department as a VIP gift employing unique embellishments, featuring a matboard dedication in Walt's hand reading "To Edward G. Robinson all best Walt Disney". The background, also produced by the Studio's Art Props Department, has been hand-painted in gouache on board featuring saturated colors that whimsically recreate the story book scene with an added pair of red flowers on the horizon. Reminiscent of original Courvoisier setups. The setup is kept in a glass-fronted frame sized 16" x 14" with a mat window of 10.25" x 7.75". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. With light handling and edge wear, minor paint debris, and slight curling on the cel, this one-of-a-kind setup with Walt Disney signed matboard is in Very Good condition.
