Space Neotopia - Proposed Japanese Theme Park Original Concept/Pitch Art by Eric Heschong for Landmark Entertainment (LEG, c. 1990s). This original concept/pitch artwork was created by Eric Heschong for Landmark Entertainment Group's planned space-themed park and museum Space Neotopia in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture. Rendered in gouache on 29" x 20" board, the overview map depicts the ambitious late-1980s/early-1990s proposal, designed during Japan's late-bubble boom. Pursued by a third-sector partnership of local government and private backers, the project aimed to open in the early 2000s but collapsed amid the 1990s economic downturn. The artwork reflects Landmark's signature "urban entertainment/edutainment" style, envisioning a futuristic space-exploration campus with a cinematic preshow, large-format media attractions, interactive galleries, themed retail, and family rides. It mirrors Landmark's other 1990s concept packages, blending education, spectacle, and immersive design. Landmark, co-founded in 1980 by Gary Goddard and Tony Christopher, became world-renowned for attractions at Universal Studios such as Jurassic Park: The Ride, Terminator 2: 3D, and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man. Eric Heschong, celebrated for his dramatic and richly detailed style, created presentation art for Landmark, Disney Imagineering, and Universal Studios. This rare surviving concept painting provides a fascinating glimpse into an ambitious, unrealized Japanese destination. In Very Good condition.
