Black Bear Jamboree/Gatlinburg Place 40'' x 30'' Original Concept Pitch Art Signed by the Artist Phil Mendez for Landmark Entertainment Group (LEG, c. 1980s). This rare concept illustration by artist Phil Mendez was created for Landmark Entertainment Group's
Black Bear Jamboree project. Rendered in gouache on a massive 40" x 30" board and signed by Mendez, the artwork vividly depicts audio-animatronic bears performing on stage, capturing the theatrical spirit of this Smoky Mountains attraction. The
Black Bear Jamboree Dinner and Show Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, was a $10 million production blending a country feast with a Broadway-caliber spectacle. Its story followed the "Legendary Black Bear Jamboree," where the bears of the Great Smoky Mountains secretly gathered to celebrate with food, music, and dance. The show featured dazzling sets, elaborate costumes, lasers, surround sound, and a versatile cast performing everything from Bluegrass and Gospel to 1950s hits and Broadway tunes. Phil Mendez, a veteran storyteller and designer, was a leading creative force in animation, contributing to
Scooby-Doo,
The Jetsons,
Yogi Bear,
Hong Kong Phooey,
Jabberjaw,
Charlotte's Web, and more. His bold style and storytelling flair shine through in this impressive illustration. In Good condition with edge wear and corner damage, this is a striking display piece and a rare collectible from themed entertainment history.
