Fantastic Planet Terr Cutout Animation Puppet Group of 39 (Les Films Armorial/Studio Jiri Trnka, 1973). "You must believe me! They're going to de-Om!" "Take him away!" Terr is captured by his fellow Oms in this incredible set of 39 original animation puppets from the surreal animated sci-fi film Fantastic Planet directed by René Laloux (1925 - 2004). The film's narrative has been considered to be an allegory for human rights, and possibly animal rights, with it's portrayal of humans as both pets and pests. This is a generous set of 39 original hand-inked, hand-painted, and hand-trimmed animation puppets seen at the 48:03 mark of the film. The art is attributed to the film's co-writer, production designer, and famed surrealist Roland Topor (1938 - 1997). Celebrated for its visionary storytelling and unique animation style, utilizing painstakingly crafted character cutouts instead of traditional animation cels, Fantastic Planet was awarded the Grand Prix special jury prize at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival. This lot offers great, one-of-a-kind images of the protagonist Terr, mounted to a 24.5" x 17.25" black board numbered 675. Original production artwork from Fantastic Planet rarely comes to market, highly coveted by animation collectors. Overall minor handling and edge wear with some glue marks on the black board, and the condition is Very Good.
