Description:
Tales of Suspense #39 (Marvel, 1963) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages. With "Iron Man 3" still in theaters, the character has perhaps never been hotter! We have only ever sold one copy of issue #39 that has topped 9.2 (the Pacific Coast copy -- a 9.6 that sold for a whopping $262,900!), and we've only auctioned one 9.2 copy as well (the Twin Cities copy, which has off-white to white pages, and went for almost $57,000), making this one the second highest graded copy that Heritage has ever seen! Take a close look at our scan of this incredible copy of the extremely hot book. It's the first appearance and origin of "Ol' Shellhead" -- Iron Man, with cover art by Jack Kirby and Don Heck. This key is so much in demand that it continues to beat the Overstreet values at auction, and while this copy is being offered without reserve, and the high bidder is guaranteed to take it home, we sincerely doubt that the "top of Guide" value will be anywhere near enough to win it. Overstreet 2013 NM- 9.2 value = $36,000. CGC census 7/13: 17 in 9.4, 4 higher.
