Flintstones on the Rocks (Dell, 1961). Yabba dabba doooooooooo...... Here it is, the Holy Grail of Flintstone comic books. At the present there are fewer than a dozen copies known and this is the second nicest copy we have ever seen. Back when Dell comics were 12 cents, this book was an outrageous one dollar! Now how many kids actually had a buck to blow in 1961, let alone on one book when they could have bought eight regular comics and had enough left over for a small fist-full of penny candies? This 116-page, ad-less, square-bound rarity would have broken the bank of most kids and, thus, probably lingered on the racks unsold. This copy is a nice FN- with no overt defects that detract from it. It has a slight forward tilt on the square spine and just a bit of storage wear. The covers and pages are a bright, unblemished and the pages white. Good luck finding a nicer copy. Heck, for that matter good luck finding any other copy at all. Of the few copies that have been located all are firmly entrenched in collections of Hanna Barbera maniacs and unlikely to come to market any time soon. Though a Dell, the whole book was done in the style that Gold Key adopted early on in that the most of the panels are borderless and most dialogue is balloon-less. This book also has a text page introducing Hanna and Barbera to the reader. You know that glaring gap in your Flintstones collection is just driving you nuts... here is your chance to rectify that with a nice looking, solid copy. A lesser-graded copy sold for $500 in the not-too-distant past.
