Description:
John Buscema and George Roussos (as George Bell) The Avengers #42 "The Plan and the Power" Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1967). Offered here is a landmark piece -- the second Avengers cover that John Buscema ever drew. Sound off with a classic Avengers roll call: Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Goliath, and Quicksilver -- with guest appearances by Hercules, Dragon Man, and Diablo. Face it Avengers fans, this big and bold battle royal has it all -- it's nothing less than a magnificent Marvel masterwork. John Buscema's peerless figure work opened up a new era of excellence for the Avengers title and helped secure his reputation as one of the key artists at Marvel Comics. Buscema's art set the standard for the "House of Ideas" after Jack Kirby departed in 1970. This super-sized spectacular has an approximate image area of 13" x 20". There are large areas of white-out in the upper quadrant; otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition. For Silver Age Marvel fans Avengers covers just don't come better than this masterpiece, so bid accordingly, you True Believers!

Buscema, John:John Buscema (American 1927-2002): After the departure of Jack Kirby from Marvel in 1970, John Buscema became one of the company’s most influential artists. Buscema is perhaps most celebrated for his Bronze Age work on the Avengers, the Silver Surfer, and Conan the Barbarian. Buscema’s work proved so in-demand in the mid-seventies, he launched the John Buscema Art School which advertised for students in the pages of many Marvel titles. Stan Lee made appearances as a guest lecturer at Buscema's school and the two collaborated on the wildly popular book How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way, Simon and Schuster, 1978. Comic Art
