Description:
Wonder Comics #1 (Fox, 1939) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages. This one is certainly one of the highlight books of this auction. The first hero to ride Superman's coat-tails was Wonder Man who made his debut in this very issue, on the stands at the exact same time as Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics #27, and publisher Victor Fox was immediately slapped with a lawsuit by DC (national Periodical) for infringement on their character Superman, causing Fox to withdraw his creation from future issues. But the wheels of justice had already been set in motion. This is a simply gorgeous copy that looks as nice today as the day it was purchased back in 1939. Considering its age and the controversy surrounding this issue, one must marvel at this copy's state of preservation. This is only the third blue label copy that we have ever seen of this rarity and it sits alone at the top of CGC's census and is very unlikely to be dethroned... ever! Be prepared to bid aggressively to get your hands on this pristine piece of comic book history. Overstreet 2013 NM- 9.2 value = $32,000. CGC census 5/14: 1 in 9.4, none higher.
