Heritage Comics Signature Auction Brings $960,000. Prices Soar.

Dallas, TX -- Heritage Comics Auctions (HCA) announced the final results of its first Signature auction, held November 23-24 at the Wyndham Anatole hotel in Dallas. 703 of the 845 lots in the sale sold, bringing in a total of $960,649.05.

"We sold a little over 80% of the value, which was right in line with our expectations," said John Petty, Director of HCA. "But the items themselves brought a solid 15-20% above our initial projection. Before the auction, we thought we only had about $1 million in material, so needless to say, we’re thrilled!"

A Spider-Man #1 in CGC 9.2 brought $40,250 (Lot 5423, Overstreet 9.4 Guide value: $25,000), and the original John Buscema cover art to Silver Surfer #1 (Lot 5499) brought the same $40,250. Realizing $25,300 was a MAD #1 in CGC 9.6 (Lot 5070, 9.4 Guide: $6500), part of the complete Gaines File #3 set that brought $88,607.50, about 4.25 times the 9.4 Guide value. (Its owner had purchased the set only six years ago for $20,000 and was hoping it would bring about $60,000.) A Special Edition #1 in CGC 9.4 from the Denver collection (Lot 5255, 9.4 Guide: $9200) realized $25,450, a Brenda Starr #14(2) with Mile High pedigree in CGC 9.4 (Lot 5281, 9.4 Guide: $760) brought an eye-popping $10,062.50 - 13.25 times Overstreet Guide!
