Description
DC 100-Page Super Spectacular #4 Weird Mystery Tales (DC, 1971) CGC NM+ 9.6 White pages. This was the first 100-page Super-Spectacular, period, i.e. it's the first issue of the series and also pre-dates the "Super-Spectaculars" that were integrated into regular DC series a couple of years later. As to why the first issue was #4, even DC insider E. Nelson Bridwell cited "reasons I can't go into -- because I don't quite understand them myself." We had never seen a true high-grade copy of this issue before, for reasons that are fairly obvious: thick square bound's are hard to find in 9.6 in any case, plus this has a black cover, front and back. And of course, the striking Bernie Wrightson cover would make this a desirable book even without all of the above. Also, it's surprising how seldom we find this issue in collections, in any grade. While other Bronze Age books in this auction might end up commanding a higher price, in many ways this is the most intriguing book of the bunch. Overstreet 2010 NM- 9.2 value = $375. CGC census 4/11: 1 in 9.6, none higher.CGC Grader Notes:
