Description

Suspense Comics #3 (Continental Magazines, 1944) CGC FN- 5.5 Off-white pages. The quintessential Golden Age cover, Suspense #3 attained celebrity status in the 1990s, ushering in a new breed of collector. In 1989 Ernie Gerber published his Photo-Journal, a pictorial collection of 22,000 Golden Age covers, and with this resource at their disposal, collectors began selecting specific covers that appealed to them, rather than devoting themselves to finishing a title's run or completing a collection of a particular character's appearances. And as Suspense #3, with its eye-popping Alex Schomburg hooded-Nazi-cultists/bondage cover and L. B. Cole interior art, was featured on the first page of the Photo-Journal, it was quickly added to many collector's want lists. But only a few tattered copies initially turned up, falling far short of demand. The book's value then began an upward spiral, and yet the supply was still very short. By the end of the '90s it became apparent that Suspense #3 was quite a rare book that would never meet demand, commanding thousands of dollars even for Fair copies. This particular copy has some corner wear, but is easily one of the best on the market (only three copies currently grade higher). This is a rare opportunity to pick up one of the hottest books in the hobby! Don't miss out. Overstreet 2010 FN 6.0 value = $13,500. CGC census 10/10: 1 in 5.5, 3 higher.
