Description

Jack Kirby - Original Character Designs for "Z-Z-1-2-3" (1978?). Jack Kirby was a veritable fountain of ideas, contributing his genius not only to the comic book industry, but to the field of TV animation as well. From that latter period comes this rare treat: character designs for Z-Z-1-2-3, later to be known as the infamous Herbie the Robot, the Human Torch's replacement in the ill-fated 1978 Fantastic Four cartoon from DePatie-Freleng. The cartoon lasted a scant twelve episodes, but Herbie also made a brief appearance in the FF's own mag in the late 1970s. Offered here are two pages of concept work, with Jack's notes throughout. Done in very tight pencils, the first page (with the character's name) measures approximately 16.5" x 12" overall, while the second page is a bit smaller, measuring approximately 16.5" x 10.5" overall. Both pages are in excellent condition, and are prime examples of a gifted artist at the peak of his creative powers.
