Description

Norman Mingo - Mad #159 Cover Painting Original Art (EC, 1973). What, me worry? Alfred E. Neuman peels the pretense off a "Crockwork Lemon" in this super-sweet cover scene, painted by Norman Mingo. A bit of the old "ultra-laughter," anyone? Frank Jacobs recalled cover artist Mingo in his comments in Mad Cover to Cover, "Early versions of Alfred possessed a muddy, archaic look, so editor Al Feldstein advertised for a new cover artist. The man hired was sixty-year old Norman Mingo, a former magazine illustrator and the only veteran of World War I to work for Mad. Mingo came out of retirement and took on the task of creating the perfect Alfred. He succeeded, and his rendering became the prototype for all subsequent depictions of Alfred." This seventies sci-fi send-up has been framed to an overall size of 24" x 28.5", and the art is in Excellent condition.
