Description

Winsor McCay - Original Comic Strip Art for Little Sammy Sneeze Sunday dated 8-5-06 (New York Herald, 1906). How many times have you seen a Little Sammy Sneeze page come up for sale? Longtime collectors can testify that it doesn't happen very often, as most of the few originals that still exist have been held by the McCay family, and rarely enter the market. Here is a nice example, in which the star of the strip, well... sneezes! As the top banner tells you, "He just simply couldn't stop it!" Any original Winsor McCay art is a treat for the eyes, and this one doesn't disappoint in the masterful depiction of crashing waves and quaint Victorian-style swimwear. A light blue wash was added as shading or as a color guide to the engravers. This page measures approximately 22" x 11.5"; there is a penciled sketch of Sammy in the lower border area along with size and date notations. A few tack holes can be seen in the border, none of which enter into the image area. Overall, a wonderful piece, in excellent condition.
