Description

Alex Raymond Flash Gordon Full-Page Format Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-26-35 (King Features Syndicate, 1935). For Flash Gordon art collectors, there are no Sundays more exquisite or desirable than an outstanding example from the all-too brief and highly-sought-after period in which the strip was drawn at its largest, the "full-page" format. For the famous Azura, the Witch Queen story arc, Raymond created a lush, heroic fantasy world imbued with "good girl" glamour and sensuous romance, limned with his preternatural drybrush inking. His astounding artistry was inspired by an approach pioneered by hall-of-fame illustrators Matt Clark and John La Gatta, and remains a highpoint in adventure comic strip art. This spectacular Sunday, featuring a sadistic whipping scene of Dale Arden, followed by her desperate plot to poison the Witch Queen, has an approximate image area of 18" x 28", and it is in Excellent condition.
