Charles Schulz Peanuts Football Place-Kick Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 10-9-77 (United Feature Syndicate, 1977). Each fall, hope springs eternal in the human breast - a tendency that the irascible Lucy Van Pelt always exploits to con the loveable blockhead, Charlie Brown, into falling on his backside. The ever-popular football gags were one of Charles Schulz's key "twelve devices" that built Peanuts into the phenomenon it is. As Schulz biographer Rheta Grimsley Johnson noted in her book Good Grief The Story of Charles M. Schulz, "The shining moment, of course is the place-kicking gag when Lucy pulls the football away from Charlie Brown. It is a perfect example of what Peanuts is all about: losing, losing again, losing some more, losing the next year. Every year it gets harder to think of a fresh gag involving the same stunt, but it must be drawn. Each time Charlie Brown fails and Lucy triumphs the strip is reinforced." This wonderful episode has an image area of 22.5" x 15", and the art is in Excellent condition.
