Description
Tales of Suspense #39 (Marvel, 1963) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white pages. This incredible non-pedigree copy is tied (with the Pacific Coast copy) for CGC's highest-graded honors, and this copy has to be ranked among the most desirable Silver Age comics Heritage has ever offered.The first appearance and origin of Iron Man, this issue has seen steady increases in value over the past few years thanks in part to the character's numerous adventures on the silver screen. Old-school collectors might do well to note that Iron Man has been more of a pop culture presence than the likes of the Fantastic Four or the Hulk in recent years, so in years to come this key could well move even further up the rankings of most valuable 1960s Marvels.
The iconic cover is by Jack Kirby, with interior art by Don Heck and backup feature art by Steve Ditko and Gene Colan. This key is so much in demand that it continues to stay significantly ahead of the Overstreet values, so don't look for any bargains here -- we sold the Pacific Coast copy back in July of last year for over $262,000.00! Overstreet 2013 NM- 9.2 value = $36,000. CGC census 11/13: 4 in 9.6, none higher.
