Highest-Graded Copy of Marvel Comics #1 to be Auctioned by Heritage!
DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Comics Auctions (HCA) will offer the highest-graded copy of the landmark comic book, Marvel Comics #1, CGC-graded VF/NM 9.0, Cream to off-white pages, in their upcoming Signature Auction, to be held October 14-15, 2005, in Dallas, Texas.
"This is, without a doubt, one of the most desirable comics on the market today," said Ed Jaster, Director of Acquisitions for HCA. "Not only does it possess a high degree of historical significance, containing as it does the origins and first appearances of both the Human Torch, by Carl Burgos, and the Sub-Mariner, by Bill Everett, but it's also one of only two copies tied for highest-graded status."
"This is the book that single-handedly launched a comics dynasty," said Jaster. Not only would Timely Comics, the company that directly sprang from this important issue, one of the dominant names in comics during the 1940s, but they would eventually evolve into Marvel Comics, the company that would take the world by storm during the 1960s and beyond with such characters as Spider-Man, the Hulk, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and countless others."
"Many copies of this seminal book available to collectors today display significant flaws," said Jaster, "including skewed printing and various degrees of restoration. Not this beauty. This is a stunning example of a book that has survived the ravages of time in near-pristine condition. There's no doubt that this book will cause some heated bidding, and will become the centerpiece in some lucky comic aficionado's collection."
This comic carries a pre-auction estimate of $200,000.
