Description:
Captain America Comics #1 Kansas City pedigree (Timely, 1941) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Cream to off-white pages. Heritage Comics is proud to offer one of the finest copies of Captain America Comics #1 in existence. The ultimate defender of freedom makes his first appearance in this ultra key Timely by landing a right hook on Hitler's jaw. It takes a villain to make the hero, and Cap had the ultimate WWII villains. Not only did he take on Der Fuehrer, but Hitler's protege, the dastardly Red Skull, also debuts in this famous first issue. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Cap is far and away the most recognizable of the patriotic superheroes and is still fighting battles on a monthly basis in Marvel comics to this day. With the resounding success of the recent Spider-Man movie following on the heels of a profitable X-Men movie, an Incredible Hulk movie in the can and Daredevil in production, one has to wonder when Hollywood will get around to doing justice to America's foremost Defender of Liberty. A 9.6 copy of this book sold privately for $265,000 a couple of years ago and another 9.0 has realized $166,750 at auction soon thereafter, but no copy this nice has appeared on the market since then. It is fun to look at the faces of collectors and dealers when they are shown this Kansas City pedigree copy for the first time; flat, clean, and glossy with supple pages and striking color, this is the book dreams are made of. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $100,000.
