Description:
Dave Gibbons Watchmen #2 "Cemetery" Cover Original Art (DC, 1986). "And I'm up while the dawn is breaking, even though my heart is aching. I should be drinking a toast to absent friends instead of these comedians." -- the Comedians by Elvis Costello. This chapter revolved around the burial of Eddie Blake, The Comedian, in the New York Cemetery. The tale was built around four flashbacks to the actions of Blake, and Rorschach's unhindered attempts at unraveling who was his murderer. What more can be written about the Watchmen that hasn't already been duly noted in the past 26 years? For many, the Watchmen mini-series represented a transcendent work of genius that showed how a comic book narrative could be constructed, as well as a revolutionary take on a post Cold War world that no longer worships superheroes. Watchmen was a turning point in comics history, one of only a handful of stories that shattered the limits of what the medium could achieve. Visionary co-creator Alan Moore used the series to deconstruct the traditional superhero mythos in a nihilistic way, never seen before. Dave Gibbons' magnificently moody and somber cover opener for "Absent Friends" has an image area of 10" x 15", and the art is in Excellent condition. From the Shamus Modern Masterworks Collection.
