Description:
Jack Davis Sick Unused Cover Original Art (1962). A rejected and previously unseen cover for Sick Magazine's 16th issue features TV's Dr. Ben Casey bringing the Frankenstein Monster to life -- wild and crazy stuff! The published cover had the magazine's Little Physician assisting Ben, rather than Ygor; in this version, he's at the door as a collector for the electric company! We feel this is a stronger joke, but editor Joe Simon must have insisted Davis redraw the cover with his mascot, the round-faced little guy with glasses and goatee, dressed in his usual scrubs. Any way you look at it, Davis delivers the goods with a classic take on our favorite Movie Monster, shown here in his Son of Frankenstein fur outfit. It's interesting to note that after this issue, the Little Physician was replaced by the better remembered, derby-wearing Huckleberry Fink. This mixed media painting on illustration board has an image area of approximately 13" x 17.5", and is in Excellent condition. From the Joe Simon Estate.
