Description:
Dave Gibbons Watchmen #5 Rorschach Dons His Mask Page 18 Original Art (DC, 1987). "This relentless world: there is only one response to it --" One of the key players in the Watchman saga, Rorschach discusses his origins with the prison psychiatrist in this classic flashback sequence. This great, self-contained and symmetrically designed (not to mention hair-raising) page by writer Alan Moore and ace artist Dave Gibbons features the ultimate vigilante suiting up for battle. Inspired by Steve Ditko's philosophical heroes The Question and Mr. A, Alan Moore took Ditko's concepts to their mind-bending end point. As Moore related, "Steve Ditko's Question/Mr. A, Rorschach is a kind of logical extension of that character but I'm sure it's not one that Steve Ditko himself ever imagined, in fact I did hear that someone was interviewing Steve Ditko and asked him whether he'd seen Watchmen and this character in it called Rorschach and he said 'Oh yes, I know that, he's the one who's like Mr. A, except Rorschach is insane.'" Insane or not, Rorschach is undoubtedly the most popular character in the renowned miniseries, playing a pivotal role in the story that marked a turning point in comic book history, and here is one of the finest Rorschach pages yet offered in the marketplace. Watchmen fans, "Sometimes the night is generous..." This masterpiece of mayhem has an image area of approximately 10" x 15.75", and aside from a light band of paper aging around the borders, the art is in Excellent condition.
