Description:
World War II Marine Utility Squadron 352 Insignia Illustration (Walt Disney, 1943). More than 1,200 World War II insignias were made by Disney, and all artwork requests for this project were handled by Hank Porter's group. This is a rare case of the original artwork being preserved as originally presented by Disney. Two letters accompany this lot: one from Disney to the Marine squadron's commanding officer noting changes having been made (apparently a prior version the squadron received had too much of a "Navy" look to it), and a letter from the squadron to Washington D.C. registering the insignia. By the way, while some might wonder if the duck here is "flipping the bird," the marine major clarifies that it's "thumbing his 'nose' at an imaginary enemy." Gouache on board with a "Walt Disney" signature probably done by Hank Porter. Artwork is almost 7" by 7" and in Very Good condition.
