Description:
H. P. Lovecraft The Shunned House Bound Copy (Arkham House, 1961). The rarest of the Arkham editions, from a print run of just 300 bound copies, reprinting Lovecraft's classic 1937 chiller. A cancel copyright notice listing copyrights for 1936, 1937, 1939, and 1947 pasted over the original copyright notice on the reverse of the title-page; it states: "Though the sheets of this story were printed and marked for copyright in 1928, the story was neither bound nor circulated at that time. A few copies were bound, put under copyright, and circulated by R. H. Barlow in 1936, but the first wide publication of the story was in the magazine, Weird Tales, in the following year. The story was originally set up and printed by the late W. Paul Cook, publisher of The Recluse." Note: This is Currey's priority C.2.b, with the magazine titles on the cancel in italics. In Very Fine condition with very minor shelf wear. Listed as #1 on Arkham House Books: A Collector's Guide's list of the 35 most valuable Arkham editions, and #1 on their list of scarcity. Arkham House Books value for Fine copy = $3,000.
