Description

Yellow Submarine Beatles Color Model Cel Set-Up (United Artists/King Features, 1968). A set of four hand-painted color model cels of all four Beatles. Lee Minkoff's first draft of the script was dated June 1, 1967; it was based mostly on the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album and had 15 songs, opening the movie with "Eleanor Rigby". These four trimmed color models were the first character designs for the film. The Beatles all have mustaches in these early development cels; however, in the live-action segment that closed the film, only Ringo Starr's mustache remained! These are the only early color model development cels we have ever seen, and they have been matted to 22" x 19.5" with a black & white Beatles band photo featuring facsimile signatures. The cels are multi-levels with outlines and mustaches on separate cels. The paint is in Fine condition. PLEASE NOTE: the card matted with the artwork describes this material as "Designed by Heinz Edelmann"; however, these early designs were, in fact, created by other artists then submitted to Edelmann before production began.
